1:1 Speech and
Language Therapy

What does therapy look like at The Christopher Clinic?

Therapy at The Christopher Clinic is personalised to your child's individual strengths, needs and goals. Sessions use evidence informed approaches alongside engaging and motivating activities, with therapy adapted to help children develop their speech, language and communication skills in ways that are meaningful to everyday life.

Therapy goals are informed by assessment and reviewed throughout your child's programme to ensure that sessions continue to reflect their needs and progress.

When are individual therapy sessions available?

Individual therapy sessions are offered at our Bournemouth clinic every Saturday and are booked in six week blocks.

Saturday appointments can be particularly helpful for families who would prefer their child not to miss nursery or school, as well as those travelling from further afield to access The Christopher Clinic.

What happens during a therapy session?

Each appointment lasts 45 minutes and includes dedicated one to one therapy with your child alongside time to talk with their parent or carer. This provides an opportunity to discuss progress, review therapy goals and share practical strategies and activities that can be continued between sessions. We want families to understand what we are working on in therapy and how they can support their child's communication in everyday life.

How much does individual therapy cost?

Individual therapy sessions are £75 per 45 minute session and are booked in six week blocks.

Therapy blocks can be paid in full at the time of booking, or instalment payments can be arranged following an initial deposit.

Why is therapy booked in six week blocks?

Working over a block of sessions provides consistency and gives your child time to work towards agreed therapy goals and build on their skills from week to week.

At the end of each block, progress is reviewed and we will discuss the most appropriate next steps with you. This may include a further block of therapy, time to consolidate skills at home or within your child's educational setting, or discharge from therapy.

Do parents and carers take part?

Parent and carer involvement is an important part of therapy. Depending on your child's age, needs and therapy goals, you may be involved directly in activities or spend part of the session observing.

Each appointment includes dedicated time to discuss your child's progress and share strategies that can be incorporated into everyday routines and activities between sessions.

Will you work with my child's nursery or school?

Where appropriate, we can work collaboratively with your child's educational setting to help strategies and therapy goals carry over beyond the clinic.

Recommendations can be shared with nursery or school staff, helping the adults around your child understand how best to support their communication in everyday situations.

How are therapy goals decided?

Therapy goals are based on your child's assessment findings, individual communication profile and the priorities identified with you and your family.

Goals are personalised, functional and regularly reviewed, allowing therapy to change and develop as your child progresses.

Can my child attend Communication Club as well?

Yes. Some children may benefit from attending Communication Club alongside their individual therapy programme.

Individual therapy provides dedicated one to one support focused on specific goals, while Communication Club provides opportunities to practise and develop communication naturally alongside other children in a small group environment.

How do I access individual therapy?

Individual therapy is usually recommended following assessment at The Christopher Clinic. We will discuss whether therapy is appropriate, the goals we would initially work towards and current availability with you following your child's assessment.

If you are new to The Christopher Clinic and would like to discuss concerns about your child's speech, language or communication, the first step is to book an Initial Consultation.
